DAY 1 – ISTANBUL – URFA | OLD CITY & MUSEUMS | GÖBEKLİTEPE

Early in the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to Istanbul Airport for your flight to Şanlıurfa. Upon arrival at Şanlıurfa Airport, you will be welcomed and transferred to the starting point of the tour. Your day begins in the spiritual heart of the city with visits to Halil-ur Rahman Mosque, Ayn Zeliha (Balıklıgöl – Pool of Sacred Fish), Rızvaniye Mosque, and the cave believed to be the birthplace of Prophet Abraham. We then continue through Şanlıurfa’s atmospheric historic bazaars and caravanserais, including Sipahi Bazaar, Kazzaz Bazaar, Hacı Kamil Han, Hüseiniye Bazaar, Naccar Bazaar, the Historic Customs Inn (Gümrük Hanı), Ulu Mosque, and the Culinary Museum. Here, we visit the ruins of Harran University (considered among the earliest Islamic learning centers), Harran Castle, and the ancient city walls. We also see the tomb of Hayat el-Harrani, a respected Islamic scholar. Next, we continue to Soğmatar, an important cult center from the Roman Period (2nd century AD). During the era of the Abgar Kingdom, this sacred area in the Tektek Mountains was a place of worship dedicated to the Moon and planetary gods. On-site, we explore highlights such as the Pognon Cave (associated with the Moon God Sin), the Sacred Hill with reliefs and rock-carved inscriptions, monumental mausoleums, an inner fortress, and numerous rock-cut tombs. We then visit Karahantepe, one of the newest and most exciting archaeological discoveries in the world. Believed to be approximately 400 years older than Göbeklitepe, Karahantepe offers a rare chance to witness an extraordinary excavation that is still ongoing and reshaping our understanding of early human history.
